Nursel Hussain is an Associate Social Worker with a Masters in Social Work from the University of Southern California with a focus on Adult Mental Health and Wellness. Her experience working at the Universities Employee Assistance Program (CWFL), as well as a Homeless Outreach Organization (HOPICS), has allowed her to support those going through depression, anxiety, marital conflict, trauma, work-related stress, and family issues. Additionally, she has experience working at NISWA, a Muslim domestic violence organization where she provided case management to survivors of domestic abuse.
Nursel is witness to the stigma surrounding mental health in Muslim and other marginalized communities, and it is for this reason that she entered the field and focused her education on understanding the intersectionality of mental health, religion, and culture. She believes that creating a safe, non-judgmental, warm environment, where the client is the expert on their own experience, will allow for the most successful outcome in healing. Nursel utilizes a variety of therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Art Therapy.
