Raniya Syed is a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. She earned her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University and completed her Honours Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Health Studies with high distinction from the University of Toronto.
Raniya has experience helping youth and adults of culturally diverse backgrounds better understand and manage their mental health and daily living issues such as, grief and loss, loneliness, low self-esteem, academic and career-related stress, family problems, interpersonal relationships, depression, anxiety, suicide, abuse, self-harm, intergenerational trauma, racism, and distress.
She adopts a holistic and strengths-based approach to therapy by drawing upon her clients' unique knowledge, lived experiences, resources, and skills as sources of support in addressing their problems and difficulties. Her clinical practice integrates various therapeutic techniques and models in accordance to her clients' individual needs and goals.
Raniya strives to foster a safe, confidential, and nonjudgmental space where her clients are met with respect, trust, empathy, genuineness, and unconditional positive regard in order to facilitate a strong therapeutic alliance, self-awareness, healing, and growth. She has worked as a therapist at the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus's Health and Wellness Centre where she provided walk-in counselling, individual, and group psychotherapy to post-secondary students.
