Hello, my name is Nausheen Yunas, and I’m a licensed clinical psychologist working out of Woodbridge, Virignia. As an introvert, I’ve always been a “thinker” and because of that, was drawn to psychology from a young age. I have also gone through struggles of my own that have increased my ability to be empathic and compassionate which makes me feel like my job is a calling rather than “just a career.” I know how isolating it can be to feel like you are alone in your struggles and I am honored that I get the chance to be a part of the healing process. I believe in the power of authentic human connection and my goal is to provide that in a therapeutic setting.

While my doctoral and masters level training did prepare me well to deal with a wide range of psychological issues, I particularly enjoy working with women struggling with self-criticism and low self-esteem. I am passionate about teaching self-compassion and helping individuals feel empowered and strong in their sense of self.  I also enjoy working with couples experiencing difficulties in communication and lacking in emotional connection.

Research shows that the quality of the therapeutic relationship or the alliance between therapist and client is the number one predictor of successful treatment outcomes. Therefore, I place a great deal of emphasis in fostering the relationship I have with my clients. Like any relationship, the quality of the therapeutic relationship depends on the “fit” between the two individuals. I value authenticity, compassion, transparency, non-judgement, vulnerability, and radical acceptance of my clients. I primarily use cognitive behavioral, mindfulness and self-compassion interventions but am a strong believer in tailoring therapy to the clients’ needs.
