About Zain Shamoon, PhD, LMFT

Dr. Zain Shamoon completed his PhD in Human Development and Family Studies and his Master's in Couple and Family Therapy at Michigan State University.

In his therapeutic work, Dr. Shamoon is dedicated to the creation of spaces where people can tell their personal stories en route to their own growth and wellness. He is a practicing family therapist, interested in increasing relief, quality of life, and healthier relationships for his clients. His clinical experience includes extensive time working with clients experiencing high anxiety, depressed mood, or relationship challenges. Dr. Shamoon is also dedicated to therapy with a systemic and anti-oppressive focus, considering how power dynamics shape relationships in families.

In his community work, he is the host and co-founder of the "Narratives of Pain" storytelling showcases, which have been held across the country since 2015. In his twenties, he was a competitive slam poet and local performance artist in Southeast Michigan.

He is also currently a Core Faculty professor of Couple and Family Therapy at Antioch University Seattle. In addition to teaching and advising students, his academic areas of focus include: applying cultural sensitivity in domestic violence services (Zain's dissertation), Person of the Therapist (POTT) training in graduate curricula, and use of feedback mechanisms in therapy.
