Registered Provisional Psychologist at
Canadian Muslim Counselling
Calgary, Alberta
Mahnoor is a Registered Provisional Psychologist, in the province of Alberta as regulated by the College of Alberta Psychologists. She holds an MSc in Counselling Psychology and a BA (Honours) in Psychology both from the University of Calgary. She has also studied the translation, word analysis, and Tafseer of the Qur’an. She believes that the Qur’an contains much healing in it that can positively benefit one’s mental well-being. Her knowledge of both psychology and Islam allows her to take an Islam-infused counseling approach for clients who prefer such service.
Mahnoor has experience providing counseling to families, couples, youth, children, adults, and the elderly through her time working with non-profit and community-serving organizations serving minority populations including immigrants, Muslims, and refugees. She is also an active member of her local Muslim community and spends much of her time volunteering, raising awareness about mental health and well-being, and developing her Islamic knowledge.
Mahnoor is committed to continuously developing herself as a Registered Provisional Psychologist and has partaken in additional training apart from her education in the following therapeutic modalities:
Despite receiving additional training in the above therapeutic modalities, Mahnoor likes to tailor her counselling approach based on her clients’ worldview and preferences, pulling on techniques from additional modalities such as Solution Focused Therapy and Narrative Therapy.
Mahnoor works with clients to tackle a number of presenting concerns including depression, anxiety, grief, phases of life concerns, self-esteem, relationships, family conflict, spirituality and/or cultural related concerns, and perinatal and post-partum mental health.
Mahnoor’s clients and colleagues describe her as someone who is warm, authentic, empathetic, caring, and supportive, and someone who maintains a good sense of humor and is easy to be around.
Mahnoor views therapy as a safe space for her clients to grow, heal, and become their best selves. She strongly believes that one’s past does not dictate the future and that every person is worthy of a whole-hearted and meaningful life filled with love and connection.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading good fiction novels, engaging in fun outdoor activities with her family and friends, and sipping on a nice cup of matcha or bubble tea. She also loves to paint and has a keen interest in creative writing and nutrition as well.
