What makes therapy at Ruh Islamic?
At Ruh, everything we do is guided by the principles of Islam and rooted in the teachings of Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah. We understand that mental health is a journey that touches both the heart and soul, and we believe that every step of this process is an amanah (trust) given to us by Allah. We strive to approach our work with ihsaan (excellence), with the intention of alleviating the difficulties faced by our brothers and sisters with compassion, wisdom, and sincerity.
Our therapists are trained in a variety of therapeutic modalities, with ongoing professional development that includes religious consultation and clinical training within an Islamic framework. This allows them to integrate modern therapeutic techniques with Islamic teachings, ensuring that our clients’ cultural and spiritual needs are always respected and addressed.
At the core of Ruh’s approach is the relationship with Allah (SWT). We recognize that healing is a holistic process—one that should not be void of the client’s ruh (soul). With this in mind, our therapists incorporate concepts like tawakkul (trust in Allah), sabr (patience), and gratitude, amongst other Islamic character strengths, when appropriate, in ways that are meaningful to our clients.
In addition to providing culturally sensitive care, we are deeply committed to seeing each client as they are. Our therapists strive to create a safe, inclusive space where clients feel heard, understood, and supported in their personal journeys. At Ruh, we foster a community that uplifts and empowers individuals, helping them to find healing through both modern mental health practices and the timeless wisdom of Islam.

Connecting with a Muslim therapist who understand the frameworks in which govern your values, ethics, and greatly shape your decision making and mindset allows for a deeper understanding of your lived experiences to date.
It can be very draining and difficult to relay the cultural and religious nuances that a Muslim therapist would know and understand otherwise. At Ruh Care, you’re able to quickly and effectively dive deep into what makes you, you, and how we can provide the best care for you.
Without spending excessive time explaining the nuances of Muslim life and values, you can quickly begin discussing your experiences and challenges in a space that respects and integrates your cultural and religious background, using familiar language, enhancing the therapeutic experience.

Does Ruh offer therapy in-person? Is online therapy effective?
A matching process refers to finding or aligning two or more entities, attributes, or requirements that correspond well with one another. Its exact steps and design depend on the context in which it’s used. Below are examples of how a matching process might look in different scenarios.
Ruh is currently a fully online therapy platform. Online therapy has proven to be effective, if not even more effective for many people, offering several meaningful benefits like access to a wider range of therapeutic expertise you may not find locally, greater accessibility without long waitlists, and convenience of joining from the comfort and privacy of your own space without having to commute.
If you're someone who usually prefers in-person sessions, you're not alone. Many of our clients feel that way at first too. That’s why we offer a free 15-minute intro call—and more often than not, many clients choose to confidently move forward after experiencing the impact firsthand of how online support fits into their life more smoothly than they expected.
While Ruh is fully online, we also run a few in-person initiatives through partnered school and masjid counselling programs. These programs are only available to students or community members directly affiliated with those organizations.
